Since I turned down the chance at a TC35 because of rust (See other message threads).. my brother in-law who also was looking for a TC 35 thought this would be a great time to see if the dealer would allow him a weekend to test the TC35.This past weekend it was delivered with a FEL and Rear Finishing Mower. Just for note the rear tires are loaded with calcium. With the loader attached and the finishing mower roaring we went off to his front yard... smiles across our faces as we thought this will be great!... Well, once the 6ft finishing mower was kicked into gear the tractor turned into a dog.. we barely made it up any slopes. After 20 minutes of trying to figure out why it was so bad .. almost as if the parking brake was on we decided to take the loader off to see if the weight was killing us. Taking off the loader wasn't as easy as the JD loader but not too bad.Loader off we were on our way again... Up the slope and still not much of a change, still a dog... the finishing mower really takes the life out of the TC35. We took the mower off and did some driving with no attachments and the unit came to life... I guess thats great if your cruising town. Next it was off to hooking up a 6ft brush hog... This turned out to be a nice experiance the tractor worked fine and cut nicely with very little bogging down.Not sure the conclusion at this point other than when you open the hood of a 35 you see what looks to be a 33 engine sitting in a bigger tractor. I'd have to say at this point we are pretty dissapointed in the TC35 and are wondering if going to a TC40 would make a whole lot of difference.

Really? I wouldn't expect a 35HP tractor to have any problems with 6' mower. I have a 23 HP Cub Cadet and it does just fine with a 6' finish mower (Woods RD7200), unless I am mowing fairly deep thick grass. You have me a little concerned now, I was looking at the TC40D for replacing my CUB. I did watch the JD 4000 series comparison video the other day and Deere made it a point to let you know the Deere had more power than the comparable NH and Kubota Tractors. But I just od feel the Green is worth the extra Green...

Mark, in your area do you find that the Deeres are more expensive than Kubota or NH?
When I was shopping last year I found a wide disparity of pricing, even within one brand, in my area. At that time I actually thought I was seeing pretty good price parity at the lowest prices I was quoted, although the highest pricing I saw was from a particular JD dealer. Based on the lowest quotes I received (a year ago), the Kubota was a little higher than the JD and NH, but not more than $1000 on a 33-34 hp tractor, belly mower, loader, and backhoe package with all the bells and whistles. My perception is that the NH pricing may have gone down a little in my area in the past year, but I haven't confirmed that.
I get the sense from this board that the John Deeres must be priced higher in other parts of the country, or the Kubotas must be priced lower. Makes sense, I guess, because recent posts suggest quite a disparity in NH pricing around the country, too. ....

I have priced Deere at two different dealers as well as NH. I only priced Kubota at one dealer(an he we also a NH dealer, very high on Kubota and NH). As you said different dealers charge way different prices. The One deere dealer wanted $1500 more than another only 15miles away on a 4400 with a loader. I don't remember the actual numbers but I do know they were about $1000-2500 more than the best NH price I was quoted. but again, one of the NH dealers wanted a significant amount more than another. It sure would be nice if all of the dealers operated on a more level playing field. It sure adds a certain amount of distrust to Ag dealers as a whole. ....

Mark, I have certainly seen a wide range of prices while shopping for tractors and implements, but it doesn't make me distrust ag dealers. I see it as a marketplace where there is room for a wide variation of pricing due to geographic considerations and dealer density issues. Geographics favor local dealers because these are big toys that are difficult and expensive to transport significant distances for service or delivery. (Can't drop them off at Fed-Ex) Dealer density is traditionally low because tractors are big-ticket items that last a long time with a much smaller set of buying customers. (Not enough buyers to support high dealer density) So this market was historically differentiated by geographics first and then service and pricing. I think that is changing as compact tractors enter a market realm closer to garden tractors than large ag tractors. My theory is that price and service will start to become more important than geographics. (Example: Steve Carver and company) In the meantime, a tractor buyer can't just assume that they are getting a "market" price; you have to shop around to know what is reasonable. ....

Mark,
I understand that the 40 had direct fuel injection where the 35 has indirect fuel injection. The fourth cyclinder on the 40 probably helps also. ....

I can't believe the machine would not do the task you put it to. We regularly run a 12' wide bat-wing mower with a similar sized machine. The only thing I can figure was the grass was WAY past due to be cut and the deck set low. Best of luck. ....

My TC29S with 5' KK finish mower has surpassed my expectations. It cuts very well even mowing pasture grass in 2nd range, 2nd gear, up slopes. I realize the 6' unit would require quite a bit more power, but something sounds amiss.

something ain't right here.i pull a NH 930 6'behind a 1530 and haven't had a problem in 4 years.you say it turned into a dog?did you loose rpm,ground speed,our what?what range where you in? ....

Something doesn't add up here. It just has to be either that particular tractor or that mower and something set up wrong. Maybe all of them together. NH would probably like to take a look at this machine. ....

Beefarmer Im running a Landpride RD25-72" thats a 700# mower and I have no problems after 5 hours running in very hilly country Endless Mt. range NE Pa.
I've got power to spare you got a poorly delivered tractor if it can't pull hills what rpm are you running you have to throttle up till the green 540 light comes on which is between 2600 and 2800 rpm's ....

You didn't mention if you had a hydro or gear tranny. If it's a hydro, try putting it into low range. High range uses a lot more fluid and so does your pto so you're probably maxxing out your pump volume. ....
